Chamber Choices
Chamber Choices is an employability programme that works with young people in North Ayrshire aged between 16-19, who are not in education, employment or training and are stages 3-5 of the employability pipeline.
The programme is a 6-week course for individuals, described above, with a mix of classroom-based activities and employer led support.
Week 1: Initial Assessment
Participants take part in an appointment with adviser to complete profiling of personal details. This will help identify key strengths, needs, and areas for development.
The Adviser will assist candidates in completing a CV template to gather information on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Support will be provided to build a professional CV and cover letter tailored to their chosen sector of employment. They will create a generic CV that can be altered for each job application to allow the candidate to be attractive to a wider range of industries.
Week 2: Workshops
Participants will take part in a series of workshops to further develop their skills and knowledge to support them:
- Confidence Building
- Resilience Training
- Communication skills
- Uncover your hidden talents
Week 3: Realities of Work
Week 3 allows participants to gain an insight into the realities of the world of work.
- Site visits to various workplaces, providing candidates with an opportunity to observe different sectors and understand workplace etiquette and expectations.
- Job search support: Supporting young people with job search tools. Supporting students to look at further education/training opportunities.
- Mock Interviews: Business owners will conduct mock interviews with candidates, simulating real-world interview scenarios to provide feedback and improve interview skills.
Week 4 & 5: Work Placement
Candidates will be placed in their chosen sector of employment, applying skills in a real work environment for hands-on experience.
Week 6: Ongoing Support
- Test mock interviews after placement, update candidate CV’s with placements and receive feedback from employers.
- Certificate of completion: Presentation on completion of 6-week course
Continued support and check-ins with candidates to ensure they remain on a positive career and training path. Guidance and advice offered as required, with additional signposting to external support services if needed.
