Absence costs business and industry an average £13 billion annually. According to the CBI survey 2000 report 'Focus on Absence', absence from work is costing British business and industry millions of pounds every year. In real terms as a member you are paying the cost - on average £438 per employee per year.
Most interestingly the survey identified that minor illness is the major cause of absenteeism amongst employees. Alarmingly however many employees increasingly see paid sick leave as an entitlement. A worrying trend for employers.
Investing in employee wellbeing makes sense
Take effective measures to reduce absenteeism and improve profits. This exclusive Primary Health plan which has an entry level of just £1.10 per week per employee, has been partnered with Westfield Health Scheme, one of the UK's leading providers of healthcare plans. The 'Focus on Absence' report also identifies that stress is the second highest cause of absence from work. The Plan includes access to a 24 hour advice line, providing confidential advice on medical, legal and domestic issues, by a team of qualified lawyers, counsellors and medical staff. Face to face counselling is also available if necessary. This facility when utilised can be an effective means of alleviating stress problems.
Minor illness is the major cause of absence
Employers of both manual and non-manual staff regarded minor illness as the major cause of absence. This is consistent with previous CBI surveys, which have indicated that employers believe genuine sickness is the main cause of absence.
For manual employees, minor illness was regarded as the second most important cause of absence, followed by paid sickness absence being seen as an entitlement.
Taking the Chamber Initiative pays dividends
Reducing the cost of absenteeism and provided added value benefits will have a positive effect on balance sheets by improving productivity, maintaining loyalty and increasing job satisfaction. Subsequently having a positive effect on profits. It will provide an effective absence management tool as well as being an excellent employee benefit, which will be received well by all employees.
What our members say about Chamber Healthcare
